About This Video

Desk Dispatch 001 is a fresh dispatch from my desk—what I’ve been using lately, what’s working, and what I’m still tweaking as I build a slower, more intentional analog life. In this episode I get hands-on with a BENU rollerball (the Capricorn) that I genuinely didn’t expect to like, plus two Lochby pieces that have been rotating through my everyday carry: the Sidekick V2 and the Watch Wallet. I also share a personal update on surgery and recovery, and why my Traveler’s Notebook continues to be the one consistent tool in my kit—especially when life gets noisy. On the pen side, I’m a fountain pen guy, but the BENU rollerball surprised me because it feels nearly identical to a fountain pen while working on almost any paper—books, printer paper, quick notes—without the usual fountain pen drama. For carry, the Lochby Sidekick V2 converted me more than I expected: an A7 notebook, card slots, and a pen loop makes it genuinely useful when my Traveler’s Notebook isn’t literally in my hand. And then there’s the Watch Wallet—an honest “it’s fine, but…” experience where tight tolerances and zipper strain made it less enjoyable than I hoped. Recovery-wise, journaling in the hospital helped me process anxiety in real time, and picking up violin again has been a grounding, wonderfully difficult analog replacement for mindless scrolling.
