About This Video

In Desk Dispatch 005, I’m taking you through a few things that have been living on (and around) my desk lately—starting with my new Love & Trip themed Traveler’s Notebook cover. I’m a little late to this special edition, but once I saw it in person (thanks to my friend Lara), I couldn’t get over how gorgeous it was. I also wanted to run the same patina experiment I did with my olive cover—because my olive shifted hard into dark brown and lost that green, and I’m curious what this deeper maroon/burgundy red will look like at the six-month and one-year mark. From there, I share how I’ve set up the notebook: the extra elastic along the spine for more refills, my zipper pouch, monthly + weekly memo, and a Midori MD refill cut down to size. I also talk through a real-time planning dilemma—weekly memo has been the backbone of my system, but with life being busy, I’m exploring time blocking and debating a weekly vertical (and I’d love your recommendations, especially if you’ve tried Sterling Ink). I also show the sketching tools that have helped me finally refine on-the-go sketching and watercolor—largely thanks to an urban sketching course by Suma on Craftsy. To round it out, I share what’s inked up for October heading into winter, a few records that have been on repeat, and what I’m reading right now—especially Cal Newport’s Deep Work, which is hitting differently at this stage of life.
