In this video, I share my current vinyl setup: a turntable, phono preamp, Edifier bookshelf speakers with a subwoofer, and an IKEA Fjällbo shelf for record storage. Along the way, I’ll talk about inherited vinyl, Facebook Marketplace finds, and the small upgrades that made this setup feel complete. This isn’t about the “best” gear or the “right” way to listen. It’s about choosing vinyl as part of a slower, more intentional lifestyle and finding a setup that makes music feel tangible again. About This Video

Vinyl wasn’t part of my life until recently, but what started as a borrowed turntable for my in-laws has turned into one of the most grounding parts of my analog journey. In this video, I walk through my current vinyl setup and the five essentials that make it work: a turntable, a phono preamp, speakers, records, and the cables to connect it all. Because this started on a whim, I built everything as simply (and affordably) as possible—reusing what I could, upgrading only when it felt necessary, and becoming a bit of a Facebook Marketplace connoisseur along the way. I share why the Rega Planar 2 became my go-to deck after replacing the missing stylus with a Grado Green, and how that one change completely shifted the listening experience—wider soundstage, deeper bass, and that surreal “I’m in the room” feeling on live recordings. I also explain the role of a phono preamp (I started entry-level and it’s been more than fine), and why I’ve happily kept my Edifier 1700BTS powered bookshelf speakers—plus the small but meaningful upgrade of adding the matching T5 subwoofer. More than gear, this is really about choosing vinyl as a slower, more intentional way to engage with music: cleaning a record becomes a ritual, record shops become places to wander, and listening becomes something you commit your attention to—needle, groove, and all.
