This is a Sirloin Tip Roast... I was hoping to get a Tri-Tip and do a reverse sear however, the store claimed that was only a California thing and did not have any to sell. The butcher recommended this cut to us. It is supposed to contain the Tri-Tip. I am not the expert on primal meat cuts from the back section of the cow so I will have to trust him. I believe it probably contains the Tri-Tip and the Round. I set up my Big Green Egg BBQ for indirect cooking with lump charcoal a one big Post Oak log. The temperature I BBQed this roast at was 250 degrees until the internal temperature was 118. Then I took the roast off the BBQ and removed the deflector plate to allow for direct grilling on the Big Green Egg. I also opened the dampers to get maximum air flow into the firebox. I seared the roast on all sides for about 2 minutes on each. If I was searing off a steak I would not normally sear it for so long. I knew the roast could take the longer sear time without overcooking.
