Welcome to the New Yorker—our 2017 Ford Transit Connect LWB micro camper build—and in this video I’m doing two things: a super quick tour, and then the real reason we made it… explaining the layout. When you’re building in a small space, you have to be intentional with dimensions, flow, and comfort. I walk you through why we stick to the newer Transit Connects, what we changed on the exterior (160W solar up front for aerodynamics, roof fan, optional 24x24 skylight, added windows, shore power), and how each choice supports stealth, climate control, and everyday usability. Inside, I break down the “why” behind our seating and platform heights—starting with the 12-inch fridge and the 12-inch cassette toilet that set the baseline for the whole build. I show how the slide-out bed works (43” wide, ~78” long) and why it’s solid even on the “floating” side, plus how we pack in real storage with bins, long-item storage, and access panels for the in-floor tanks. I also cover the electrical and controls (USB, 12V, 120V, inverter switch, battery monitor, heat pads), our quiet diesel heater placement, cross-ventilation with the windows + fan, and a few favorite quality-of-life upgrades like the exterior lights and electric gray-water dump valve.
