About This Video

Today I’m doing a full first-listen album reaction to Taylor Swift’s brand new record, The Life of a Showgirl. I’m not a big Swiftie (and I really didn’t vibe with TTPD), so I went into this one intrigued… and a little scared. My reactions are super “how does it SOUND” focused—I’m not here to deep-dive lyrics (that’s y’all’s job), but I will tell you what I like, what I don’t, and what’s giving me a visceral no. We start off strong with “The Fate of Oilia,” which immediately had me like wait… I can get into this—whimsical, a little folklore-ish in tone, and her vocals sounded genuinely incredible. “Elizabeth Taylor” also had me vibing (strings! ad libs!), and I was feeling way more hopeful than expected. But then the album starts sliding for me—some choruses drag songs down, “Father Figure” made me nervous as a huge George Michael fan, and tracks like “Eldest Daughter” and “Actually Romantic” just didn’t land for me (execution and lyrics-wise). By the end, I give the album a 6/10, share my top three songs (“Wood,” the title track with Sabrina Carpenter, and “The Fate of Oilia”), and beg everyone to please not be mean to me in the comments.
