About This Video

In this one I’m at the mecca of bodybuilding—Gold’s Gym Venice, California—right in the build-up to 2024 Olympia week, and I got the absolute privilege of training legs with the Titan himself, Mike O’Hearn. We start simple and sensible: a few warm-up sets on leg extensions, then straight into the work. What I liked about training with Mike is he doesn’t give much away at first—he’ll just tell you the reps and the exercise, so it’s all a bit of a surprise, and it forces you to switch on and just get it done. The session was all about primary quads: squats, machine squats, and leg press, with Mike pushing me out of my comfort zone. One of the biggest takeaways for me was warming up without pre-fatiguing—normally I’ll do 8–15 reps on warm-ups and gas myself before the top set. Dropping that to 3–5 reps left way more in the tank when it mattered. We also got into proper bodybuilding execution—tension, positioning, and actually feeling the muscle you’re trying to hit—because if the muscle isn’t the first thing firing, you’re not doing the exercise right. I’ve been in the trenches, but I still picked up tips today, and it proves you can always learn from someone who’s been around the greats.
