About This Video

In this video I’m doing a full-day, side-by-side wear test of the brand new Fenty Beauty Grip Trip Primers: the Mattifying + Blurring (pink) and the Hydrating + Plumping (purple). I’ll be honest—these sucked me in at Ulta purely on packaging first. They’re $37 each, the swirly gel looks so cool (it reminds me of those Stila primers), and the bottles feel heavy and luxe with a really nice pump. Packaging-wise, it’s a 12 out of 10 for me. For the test, I used the hydrating primer on the right side of my face and the mattifying primer on the left, then applied the same foundation (Rimmel Lasting Finish) on top with no powder, bronzer, blush, setting spray—nothing. I also used a little IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer because I can’t leave my under-eyes alone. Right after application, I didn’t see a huge difference between the two sides, which surprised me. By the end of the day (in 95-degree heat), both sides held up really well and I still didn’t see a dramatic difference—except around my nose where my glasses sit. The mattifying side did a slightly better job there. Overall, I liked both and I’d say it mostly comes down to preference: matte and blurred vs hydrated and natural.
