About This Video

Hey guys, it’s Sharon. In this video I’m recapping my first official month of cash stuffing for my family of three (me, my husband, and our toddler) because I’m trying to get our finances back on track and in tip-top shape for the long term. I walk through what’s left in my wallet and binders after a full month, and we tally up everything that’s still sitting in envelopes. I ended October with $515 left in my sinking funds, which is honestly really great because that’s money for future expenses that I don’t have to stress about “finding” later. I also share my biggest wins and my real-life lessons learned. The biggest win was paying off a $1,900 credit card bill and putting the cards away “until further notice.” I cut spending where I could (goodbye premium Spotify for now, painful but it keeps me humble) and I even updated our car insurance to save about $40 a month. On the flip side, we overextended by $20.74, had an unexpected $250 vet bill, and I learned I need to keep at least $250 in the pet fund at all times so I’m not robbing other envelopes. I also talk through November adjustments—like shifting eating out to electronic spending, cutting work lunch money, and figuring out what to do with my Amazon budget line item—because this is all about progress, one paycheck at a time.
