About This Video

Hey everyone, it’s Sharon. In this video I’m doing a beginner cash stuffing session with $310 using the Dave Ramsey cash envelope system, and I’m showing it from a realistic point of view. I’m a wife and mom to a toddler, and we’ve recently implemented cash envelopes to stay motivated and intentional—without pretending we’re stuffing $2,000 every week. I pulled the cash from the ATM, tracked everything on an Excel sheet, and started with my wallet categories first. I break down exactly what gets funded: groceries ($120), household ($20), restaurants ($40 plus I had leftover cash and some change from Taco Bell), and work lunch ($10 for my one office day). Then I move into my sinking funds binders—like Halloween ($10 for candy), family activities ($10 for things like the pumpkin patch), property taxes ($50 so we’re ready by December), car maintenance ($10), and a $40 buffer because I’ve been short in categories before and I don’t want to ā€œrobā€ from other envelopes. One of my biggest takeaways is that I don’t pull cash for every single bill. If it’s a recurring bill that drafts electronically, I leave it in checking—because I don’t have time to run to the bank constantly. Cash is for the categories that keep us on track in real life: groceries, eating out, and the ā€œlife happensā€ stuff.
