About This Video

My baby just turned 6 months old, and I decided it was honestly past time to start trying crib naps. For the last six months she’s been napping right next to me in a little baby lounger on the couch while I get work done, but she’s at that stage where every tiny sound wakes her up. So in this video I’m sharing our first real attempt at moving naps into the crib and what it actually looked like in real life. I’m keeping it super honest: I know absolutely nothing about sleep training, so I’m just doing what works for us—trial and error. I’m still exclusively breastfeeding and I usually nurse her to sleep, but I tried nursing her so she stayed awake and then putting her down to see if she’d fall asleep on her own. I used her sleep sack (even though she doesn’t usually wear it for morning naps) and made sure the sound machine was on. While she napped, I could finally do things like clean the kitchen without waking her up. She ended up taking about a one-hour crib nap, and even though she woke up wide awake after I tried to lay her back down, I’m calling day one a success.
