This is the biggest contributor to ewaste, as perfectly working devices end up in landfills because of a few ounces of lithium ion. Manufacturers used to make it as difficult as possible to replace a battery, now they just make it so expensive, it makes no financial sense to do it. This problem is something I've been dealing with on a grand scale, as I've been buying up pallets of "older" laptops in my goal to flood the market with used, affordable business grade laptops in preparation for the Windows 10 EOL.
