About This Video

What’s up everybody? In this build, my dad and I take a humble plastic fruit basket and a bit of styrofoam and turn it into an epic waterfall aquarium. The big trick at the start is lining the basket with bubble wrap before pouring cement. I know it sounds weird, right? But that bubble wrap is the secret ingredient—when you peel it off, it leaves this awesome dimple texture in the concrete that looks super unique and high-end. After we form the main tank walls around a styrofoam mold and let it cure for 24 hours, we move on to the waterfall. My dad carves three “tears” into styrofoam with a soldering pen, makes a flow hole for the water, then coats it with cement slurry. We reinforce the tank with another cement layer, paint everything a killer charcoal blue, and then dry brush copper over the surface for that copperplated look. Finally, we silicone in the front glass panel, hook up the pump and tubing, and do the most important step: I let the tank sit for 3 days so the cement toxins can leech out before any fish go in. After a final clean, I add pearlweed, succulents, pebbles, LED lights, fresh water, and the fish—instant five-star resort vibes.
