About This Video

Hey guys, welcome back to my upcycling series. In this video, mom got some new chickens… but we had no coop. Then dad found an old barrel in the shed and that was it—idea unlocked. I show you how we turn one used barrel and a few scrap planks into a clean, classy chicken coop that’s sturdy, budget-friendly, and honestly looks way more “fancy” than it should for recycled materials. We start by cutting rectangles in the barrel body and lid, then trimming about one-third off the barrel to shape the build. Step by step, we measure, cut, and sand wooden bars, then assemble the coop frame nail by nail. I reuse old plywood to close one side, add metal mesh on top for airflow, and set the barrel right on top so it instantly feels like a real chicken house. After that, we build a roof frame, weld a small window frame, and install doors for both the barrel section and the lower frame. The finishing touches are my favorite: black mesh, a matching gray coat, PU on the roof for termite proofing, wood-effect strokes, and a bright red main door. Husk on the floor, chickens in—done.
