About This Video

Hey, hey DIY fam—today I’m showing you how we turned discarded materials into a real “next level chicken palace.” My brother brought home new chicken babies, so we used whatever we had lying around and built a coop that’s not just functional, but also looks fun and clean. We started by sketching the blueprint right on the ground, digging a poop pit out front, laying bricks to lock in the shape, and pouring/smoothing cement for a solid floor. Then I cut and sanded old wooden planks, assembled the main frame, and wrapped everything with B40 mesh before building the roof and the door. The coolest part is the upcycle: I repurposed an old oil drum into the main chicken coop by cutting door frames and adding sturdy hinges. After setting the barrel on the wooden frame, I added mesh flooring, trimmed windows, a mini staircase, a giant feeder, and cozy nesting boxes. To finish, I decorated it with a DIY chicken head from a plastic container, painted the barrel leafy green with a fire red comb, and sealed everything with a waterproof PU coating. Then I built raised garden beds around the coop, planted organic greens, spread rice husks, and released the chickens—boom, a chicken coop and veggie garden combo for fresh greens and organic eggs.
