In this video I unbox, set up, and properly test the Cammus C5 direct-drive wheel bundle, and honestly it’s one of the most interesting budget sim racing options I’ve tried. The big headline is the design: there’s basically no traditional wheelbase because the direct-drive motor is integrated into the wheel itself. That’s how they keep the price down (I mention it coming in around the $250–$299 range depending on the listing), but it still manages to deliver a genuinely immersive force feedback experience. I walk through what you actually get in the box (wheel, pedals that need assembling, and the desktop clamp), plus the physical details like the 180mm shallow D-shape, carbon fibre face plate, rev indicator, speed display, programmable buttons, rotary encoders, and the rear paddle shifters. I also show how the mount works on a desk or sim cockpit, and why the lack of a wheelbase can actually help you bring your monitor closer for immersion. For performance, I tested it on PC (no console support) and dialled force feedback to max for 5Nm of torque in Forza Horizon 5. The feedback is strong, bumps and curbs translate well, and it’s easily a step up from gear or belt-driven wheels—just not as refined as higher-end direct drives. My main complaints are limited game accessibility, software that could be more refined, and small shifters that can be a stretch if you’ve got short fingers.
