In this BIBO Winners Circle interview, I’m sharing how I got involved in the beauty industry and what really shaped my approach to hair and makeup. I grew up doing hair (literally practicing on my siblings), went to cosmetology school, and then fell in love with makeup because it paired perfectly with what I already enjoyed. The biggest thing for me is keeping it natural—natural hair, natural makeup—because I’m not trying to spend 30 minutes to an hour every single day just to feel like myself. I’m a “lazy natural,” so I’m always looking for styles and routines that save time but still look cute and chic. I also break down a few business gems that helped me build: listen to your community (people will tell you what they need), be willing to switch it up when something isn’t working, and create a routine so you’re consistently working on your business—even if you still have a 9–5. We also talk about what I noticed in the industry, especially for women of color: there was a gap in natural makeup artists who can match foundation properly and deliver that skin-like look. And yes, the irony is real—sometimes “natural” makeup can take an hour—but I still share tips to make everyday routines quicker and more realistic.
