About This Video

In this video I put the Neewer LS-59 85mm HD telephoto lens on my iPhone and actually shoot with it—portraits and street—so you can see what it does in real situations, not just desk talk. First impressions: this thing is massive, heavy, and made of metal, with a proper cap, a huge front element, and even a lens hood that feels like something from my real camera kit. It mounts via a 17mm threaded setup (phone cage/backplate style), and the front has a 72mm filter thread, which is honestly wild for a phone lens. On image quality, I’m impressed. The big win is compression: it gives my iPhone shots that more “portrait lens” look you just can’t get from the regular iPhone lenses, and on my 15 Pro it basically destroys the 3x/70mm camera because I’m using the main sensor with a faster aperture. Sharpness holds up really well, and portraits look great—just don’t buy it thinking you’ll magically get more bokeh; it’s the same bokeh amount, it just looks nicer because of the compression. The trade-off is you basically lose stabilization once it’s on, so handheld video gets shaky unless you go slow-mo, use a tripod, or a little stand.
