About This Video

In this video I review the 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 autofocus lens for Sony E-mount (APS-C), and yeah—this tiny cheap lens actually surprised me. I start with a quick unboxing (classic “box within a box”), and you get a Type-A to Type-C cable for firmware updates, manuals, and the lens itself with a petal hood and a redesigned cap I genuinely like. The lens is super lightweight, feels like metal, has a smooth focus ring (focus-by-wire), a 58mm filter thread, and a 25cm minimum focus distance. I mounted it on my Sony A7C in crop mode because I wanted to use the viewfinder, and the size balance is honestly perfect for a compact walkaround setup. The big story: autofocus. Out of the box I was missing focus a lot—like up to 30%—with hunting and bad accuracy. Then I updated the firmware through the USB-C port on the lens and it completely transformed it: smooth AF, way less hunting, and my keeper rate jumped to around 90–95%. Image quality is also shockingly good for the price: sharp in the center at f1.8, corners hold up, and by f2.2–f2.8 it gets sharp edge-to-edge. You do get vignetting and some chromatic aberration wide open, but both clean up by f2.8, and the CA is pretty manageable in post. For travel, street, and a lightweight “better than the kit lens” option, I actually recommend it—and I’m keeping mine.
