About This Video

Yo, what’s up — I’m Gabby from Rage Studios, and in this video I review the Boya Magic, a super compact “multi-purpose” mic that’s trying to be like four or five microphones in one. I start with a quick unboxing and you get a look at everything in the pouch: the tiny shotgun-style mic body, the mini tabletop stand, windscreens/dead cats, cables (USB-A to USB-C, USB-C to USB-C, TRS to TRS), and extra adapters like Lightning for older iPhones. The clever part is the design: it’s small enough to pocket easily, has a 1/4-20 mount, and it’s built to work across phone and camera setups. Then I go straight into real audio tests. I use the DJI Mic Mini as a baseline, then switch to the Boya Magic on my iPhone 15 Pro (USB-C) so you can hear the difference, including room noise and even construction outside. I test it handheld like an interview mic, mounted on the phone from farther away for scratch audio, and with the air conditioner blasting to see what the wind protection can do. Finally, I toggle the AI noise cancelling button (green light on) and run noisy stuff like the coffee grinder so you can judge how well it cleans up the background. My takeaway: audio is actually really good for the size—comparable to DJI Mic Mini, similar to the Godox Cube—while the “shotgun” mode is more for decent scratch audio than full pro mic replacement.
