About This Video

Your iPad isn’t just for Netflix or random YouTube recipes — I’ve been using mine as a legit filmmaking tool across every stage of production. After my mobile-shot short film screened (and won an award) at SF3 in Sydney, I ended up with an 11-inch iPad Pro M2… and it providentially became a key part of producing my next short film, The Multiverse Syndrome. In this video, I break down how you can use any iPad (new M4 or older models) for pre-production, production, and post. For pre-pro, I show how I wrote my script using Final Draft Go (way cheaper than desktop Final Draft), then built shot lists, schedules, and even paperless storyboards using Google Docs, Notion, and Acrobat with the Apple Pencil. On set, I don’t use the iPad as a main camera (let’s be real, it looks ridiculous), but it’s amazing as a field monitor and remote control station for iPhone cameras using apps like Protake (my go-to), plus options like FiLMiC Pro, Final Cut Camera, and Blackmagic Camera. And for post, I walk through editing on iPad with CapCut, LumaFusion, and DaVinci Resolve — because yes, you can have “portable Hollywood” in your lap. To make the whole workflow faster and cleaner, I also tested the CableTime 8-in-1 USB-C Hub with Foldable Stand, which turns your iPad into a proper workstation with 4K HDMI output, fast data ports, SD/TF card reading, a 3.5mm audio jack, and up to 100W power delivery — all in a compact, sturdy aluminum stand.
