About This Video

Ever wondered what it’d be like typing on ceramic keycaps? In this video I unbox and review the Cerakey Ceramic Keycaps V2 (black with white legends) and put them through a few weeks of real use. Cerakey uses industrial-grade alumina ceramics fired at around 1200°C, and the whole point here is the typing experience: that cold touch, the slick solid press, and a distinct sound that’s different from regular plastic caps. I also do a sound test and talk through what I genuinely like: the smooth glossy glaze, the classy “premium” look (especially on an aluminum board), and the slightly translucent ceramic that can play nicely with backlighting—south-facing LEDs work well in my experience. V2 also fixes a big V1 complaint with a newly implemented plastic stem design so the caps fit more snug on Cherry MX and MX-clone switches. Then we hit the cons: no homing keys (F and J) included, occasional tiny pings when caps nudge each other due to inconsistent spacing, and a couple keys that can sit crooked (my right shift and home key). And yes—these are fingerprint magnets, especially in black, so wipe them down unless you want your “premium” board looking slimy and gross. Final verdict: not cheap, but a unique, multisensory upgrade if you want something genuinely different.
