In this video I’m breaking down why the Topping E8X8 ended up being the “perfect” interface for my studio—not because I’m trying to be dramatic, but because it fixes a bunch of very specific workflow problems I’d been fighting with. My previous setup was an Audient EVO 16 as the main hub, plus SP8s for extra conversion, and it worked on paper (24 in / 24 out)… until it didn’t. I was short on preamps for a proper working live room (drums are coming), I couldn’t keep my DX7 Pro+ connected the way I wanted, the EVO headphone amp was crapping out on hungry planars, and the EVO monitoring DAC had that hazy thing I just don’t like. By moving the E8X8 into the main conversion role, I could shift the EVO 16 to the “secondary” position and get both SP8s into the live room for 16 preamps when I need them. The E8X8 also lets me run optical S/PDIF straight into my Topping DX7 Pro+ for monitoring, while using the second ADAT out to feed a cheap but effective multi-channel headphone amp setup. The big win for me though is the headphone amp and monitoring: clean gain, loads of headroom (especially at low ohms), direct monitoring buttons right on the front panel, and a DAC-to-speakers sound that keeps transients and punch without that smeary haze.
