About This Video

In this video I’m showing you six pro-level mixing hacks that solve the most common “modern mix” problems—where everything is heavily produced and you still need that in-your-face, polished sound for rock, pop, EDM, and obviously metal. I lean hard on Eventide Anthology tools because they’re fast problem-solvers: I can add aggression and presence without wrecking transients, create believable space when the source tracks are trash, and keep everything feeling big without getting harsh or messy. I start with one of my favorite moves: parallel distortion on close drum mics (kick/snare/toms) using CrushStation—blended in slowly, filtered in the lows, and kept under control so I don’t lose transient punch. I do the same concept on vocals for definition and crisp upper harmonics (again: bring it up until you notice it, then back off). From there I fix weak room mics by faking a room with Tverb, tame ringy tom/snare resonances with SplitEQ (tonal vs transient EQ is insane), and keep layered guitar tones tight with Precision Time Align so phase doesn’t hollow out the sound. I also widen a mono lead with H910, then sidechain-dock vocal FX with Omnipressor so the lead stays upfront, and finish with a bonus: Blackhole after delays to make them bigger, smoother, and less pokey.
