Then I show you how I like to get inspired fast by dragging MIDI grooves from the drum plugin into the DAW, and why the drum map matters so much—because every sampler speaks a slightly different “language,” and if your mapping is off, articulations like chokes and other details just won’t behave. From there, I get into the big quality jump: routing. I compare a simple stereo kit to multi-output, where you can treat the virtual kit like a real acoustic drum recording—separate kick/snare/toms/overheads/room, sub-buses, parallel compression/distortion, reverbs, the whole thing. I also cover fine-tuning bleed (something you can’t do after tracking a real kit) and layering samples—like stacking multiple snares/kicks, each with a specific role (click/body/sustain), while paying attention to phase.
