I’ve been there. And as soon as your projects get bigger—more tracks, more layers, more modern production stuff (metal, rock, pop, EDM, cinematic)—those bad habits will punish your system harder and harder. In this video I walk you through practical DAW optimization hacks that work on any DAW, Mac or PC. I start with the boring-but-critical stuff: set the right buffer size (high for mixing, low for tracking), and stop running ridiculous sample rates “just because you can”—44.1 kHz is usually the smartest choice, and you can lean on plugin oversampling when you actually need it. Then I show you how to think about plugin DSP like calories: watch the meter, identify the culprits (reverbs, delays, mastering-grade and “intelligent” plugins), and make smart swaps. I also cover freezing/printing, routing to FX buses, deactivating instead of bypassing, turning off unused EQ bands/modules, and why channel strips can be more efficient than stacking three separate plugins. Finally, I share ways to revive older systems—like using an external DSP accelerator and, if needed, doing a clean OS format to start fresh.
