About This Video

Is it really possible to master a song using only one plugin? I went into this review super skeptical, because mastering is usually a complex job that needs multiple tools and a lot of experience. In this video I test Musik Hack’s Master Plan, a plugin that’s basically trying to replace an entire mastering chain—especially for mixers who want to keep quality control but are dealing with tight budgets and end up mastering their own mixes. I walk through the GUI (input/output, the loudness knob that blends clipping + limiting, EQ bands, thick/clean low-end shaping, optional multiband compression, the “com” harshness control, and width). I also talk about the metering (integrated and short-term loudness, clipping/limiting indicators, and crest factor—because nobody wants the “pancake” master). Then I put it against real-world masters across three songs, where my reference masters used 6–7 plugins. What surprised me is how close I got in about a minute or two using the Quickmaster preset with light tweaks. Big takeaway: Master Plan can absolutely get you frighteningly close while saving a ton of CPU/DSP, and it stays pretty transparent even when pushed loud. But if you’re trying to live around -5 LUFS integrated, you still need to build loudness in the mix first with saturation, compression, and clipping—don’t try to “fix it” only at the mastering stage.
