About This Video

After finally getting Legions Imperialis on the table, I give you the honest version of what it’s actually like to play—because most miniatures game reviews are either “trash” or “amazing” and the sane middle gets drowned by algorithmic sugar-drip. My headline is simple: Legions Imperialis isn’t a finished game. But if you’ve got a casual group willing to talk through rough edges, play slow-grow, and treat it like two consenting adults negotiating a good time, it can be genuinely excellent. What surprised me is how much the game sings when the table is right: dense, correctly-scaled terrain (Civitas Imperialis or good prints) makes garrisoning buildings and assaults feel tense and meaningful. Alternative activations create a tactical flow that’s completely different to I-go-you-go systems, and epic scale finally makes battlefield roles make sense—tanks are terrifying but fragile in combat, Titans obliterate things but can’t hold objectives, and infantry matter because tactical strength actually means something. Then I get into the problems: drab, unsexy rulebook presentation, datasheets that need better usability, missing index/reference fixes, flimsy cardboard tokens, and some balance/points weirdness (hello 3,000 points marketing). I also explain why the 30% Titan/Knights limit makes me confident an Imperator Titan is coming—late 2025/early 2026 if my pattern recognition isn’t lying to me.
