What’s good everybody—this one is me reacting to the Voltron live-action movie casting news and breaking down what it could mean for the story. Voltron is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. I grew up on the mid-80s run, and I also really enjoyed Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender, so I’ve been keeping my eye on this project since I first heard about it. Now we’re hearing names like Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, John Kim, and Daniel Quinn-Toye, plus Amazon Studios backing it and Rawson Marshall Thurber directing. My biggest takeaway: I’m excited, but I’m cautious. Voltron’s pilots are supposed to be young—late teens to 20s—so if they’re casting older actors as the main lion pilots, I’m not feeling that at all. The only way it makes sense to me is if they’re doing an “older, original pilots” angle and introducing a new generation because the lions have been dormant or the team got fractured. I’m also cool with Sterling K. Brown as a villain—his voice and presence could absolutely work for that. And listen: don’t Hollywood this thing to death. Keep the soul, keep the lore, and for the love of everything—don’t mess up the suits. If they don’t look like the classic colors and helmets, we’re gonna have a problem.
