In this video I’m reviewing the Waves SSL EV2 Channel, which is basically an updated version of the classic SSL Channel Strip that’s been on a ton of mixes for years (including mine). I’ve used the original SSL Channel on vocals forever, and I’ve seen engineers use it in big studios all the time—so when Waves updated it, it honestly threw me for a loop. I break down what’s new, what’s different, and why I’m personally switching over to EV2 as my main one. I show you the big upgrades: the plugin is resizable (finally), you get mic/line input modes so you can drive it for harmonic distortion without it falling apart, and the updated Analog button adds that subtle console vibe—fullness, low-end weight, and that in-your-face feel. You also get two EQ flavors (Brown vs Black) and a super clutch Listen function that solos the EQ band while you tweak, which makes corrective EQ way easier. Then I run a vocal demo where I’m literally using the channel strip to do the heavy lifting—EQ, comp, filters, all that—with just a little reverb outside of it. My takeaway: if you already own the original SSL, update it. If you don’t, this is one of the best channel strip plugins Waves has, and it’s a crazy good pickup when it’s on sale.
