Yo what’s up everybody, it’s your boy Slim aka MrDifferent. In this video I’m inside of FL Studio checking out a brand new EQ from Eventide called SplitEQ, and it’s not just another “regular EQ.” The whole point of this plugin is it lets me EQ the transients (green) and the tonal content (blue) separately, so I can reshape a sound in a way a normal static EQ just can’t. I show you how you can cut lows to try to get drums out of a sample, then bring the tonal character back without bringing all the transient punch back with it. That’s the unique sauce. I also go through the workflow stuff that makes it feel like a swiss army knife: six bands plus high/low pass, multiple filter shapes, presets/algorithms for full mix, kick, snare, drums, bass, and more, plus the ability to pan or widen the tonal vs transient content. I even added the part I forgot—soloing each band (full, transient, or tonal) so you can hear exactly what you’re affecting. At the end I keep it real with pros and cons: I like it because it can replace multiple plugins, but I wish it had more bands and a dynamic EQ mode. Overall, if you’re mixing, mastering, sound designing, or rebalancing samples, this one is definitely worth looking at—especially at that intro price.
