Yo what’s good everybody, it’s your boy SLint AKA MrDifferent, your favorite nappy headed producer with the dread. In this video I’m talking about a super controversial plugin: Waves CLA Vocals. It’s one of those plugins you either love or hate, and I already know some of y’all was ready to click off like “CLA Vocals? really?” But hear me out—I show you why I think it’s actually a very useful plugin for beginners and advanced people, especially if you’re trying to get vocals sounding good fast. I jump inside the DAW (yes, Studio One… deal with it) and I literally mix a whole vocal using only CLA Vocals—no other processing—then I A/B it so you can hear how dramatic the change is. I break down the six faders (bass, treble, compression, reverb, delay, and pitch) and how the plugin does the “behind the scenes” work so you don’t have to stress about ratios, attack/release, and all that. My biggest takeaways: it’s affordable because it’s on sale all the time, it’s easy to use, it’s low CPU for y’all cheap-ass computers, and it’s clutch for tracking so artists can hear a vibey vocal in their headphones and perform better. Only real weakness to me is the reverb—it works in a pinch, but it’s not my favorite.
