I Finally Started My Overland Sprinter Van Build

This is the start of my Sprinter van build and I’m finally getting to work on turning it into a full-time livable overland rig. In this video, I’m installing overhead storage inside the van and kicking off the build process one step at a time. This build is all about keeping things functional, simple, and ready for life on the road — with plenty of learning along the way. This is the first modification, but there’s a lot more coming as I continue building this van out for travel, camping, and everyday living. If you’re into van builds, overland rigs, or just want to follow along as this project comes together, stick around. More updates soon.

About This Video

Today marks the beginning of my overland Sprinter van build, and of course it’s snowing and freezing outside—so I had to knock out a couple interior mods that actually matter for day-to-day life on the road. First up was a simple dash mod that lets me route charging cables out of that weird phone cubby area. I noticed on the drive home from Florida that keeping my phone locked up there is just not it—if it disconnects from maps or my wife calls, I need to grab it fast. Plus, closing that compartment is basically an oven for your phone. The second mod was the bigger one: overhead storage up front to kill all that wasted roof space. The install wasn’t “hard,” but it definitely wasn’t fun—especially with the fridge in the way and my fat short arms trying to get bolts started behind all the trim. The mounts claim they’re rated for 200 lbs, but I’m telling you right now… no way. Still, it’s perfect for lightweight stuff like pillows and a blanket, and I also got the front coat-hanger hook back on so I can run a curtain and block people from looking into the van. Both mods were under $200, which is a win, because I’m learning real quick the Sprinter world isn’t exactly budget-friendly.
