About This Video

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the Marilyn Darling Show—today I’m doing another ink review, and this one is a very bright, very in-your-face blue: Siashiki (Shikiashi… Sai-sai-sai—listen, I wasn’t feeling great) Sky Blue. I swatched it, then put it through my usual water resistance test. It’s got a tiny bit of water resistance, but because it’s so bright, I personally wouldn’t trust it on the outside of an envelope—one good splash and you may be crying into your washi tape. Then I did my two “toilet paper chromatographies” (one with water, one with rubbing alcohol). Honestly? It’s blue on blue on blue. I didn’t see a bunch of surprise undertones blooming out—just the same blue, and maybe a lighter blue separating with the alcohol. After that, I ran it across a whole stack of papers, and whew… this ink can feather like a chicken and bleed through on a lot of everyday notebook papers. The good news is it behaved beautifully on better paper like Hobonichi, A-Fall 75gsm, and Tomoe River 68gsm, and it looked especially nice where it could show a little shading without turning into a fuzzy mess. I wrapped up with a quick comparison panel (TWSBI Sky Blue and a few turquoise/cyan-leaning inks get close), and that’s the scoop.
