I had a new toy to play with, and I was honestly way too excited about it: the Jinhao 20 in transparent clear—with sparkle. This one showed up from AliExpress in about seven working days (which is kind of amazing), and the first thing out of my mouth was basically, “Oh my god, Becky,” because it’s that pretty. I’ve been begging Pilot in my head for years to make a clear, transparent Vanishing Point, because people would lose their minds… but Jinhao jumped the gun and did it first. In this video I unbox it, take it apart, and ink it up with Pilot Iroshizuku “Kon-peki” (mine’s an older bottle, and it was a gift from our friend Chris). Mine came with the little button cover (always appreciated), but no cartridge, so I went straight to filling and priming the feed. My big takeaway: if you want that Pilot Vanishing Point feel without Pilot pricing, the Jinhao 20 is a very close match—just be aware that these pens can be a little hit-or-miss, and I personally get nervous when people put something like Carbon Black in them.
