About This Video

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Marilyn Darling Show—today I’m reviewing Diamine Orange, and yes, my technology decided to fail me (thanks, technology… I hope you die). With my color looking totally blasted out, I had to choose acceptance and push through so you could still get something useful out of the test. I start with my swatch, a quick water resistance check (spoiler: there’s a little bit), and then I do my “toilet paper chromatography” so we can see what’s really going on in the dye. On water, I’m seeing that classic orange and yellow split, and with rubbing alcohol I also get orange/yellow plus a hint of pink showing up. Then I run Diamine Orange across a big stack of papers to see how it behaves in the real world—feathering, micro-bleeding, bleeding, and ghosting included. Some papers absolutely struggled (hello, feather like a chicken), while others looked gorgeous and clean. HP Premium 32 lb copy paper was beautiful with no bleeding or ghosting, and several nicer notebook and pad options held up really well too. I finish with a comparison panel to help you place this orange against similar inks—Orange Soleil, Inferno Orange (shimmer), Diamine Flame, and Robert Oster Orange—because we all know “orange” can mean a lot of different things depending on lighting and paper.
