In this reaction, I checked out a Walter’s World video all about traditional English food and what you should actually eat when you visit England. England gets a lot of flack for the food, and I’ve definitely joked about it before too, but watching this breakdown reminded me there’s a lot more going on than the stereotype. We get into the classics like a full English breakfast (eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, bangers, bacon, toast, tea), plus pub culture and why the pub is a big part of the experience. From there, it’s all the comfort foods: fish and chips (ideally from a chippy), bangers and mash (and the reason they’re called “bangers”), shepherd’s pie, and the pies that apparently change people’s minds about eating in England—steak and kidney being the big one. We also talk Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding, beef wellington, and jacket potatoes loaded up more like a full meal. And yes, we hit sweets and drinks: Cadbury chocolate in England being the real deal compared to the US version, apple crumble, and the whole tea time/high tea experience with scones, clotted cream, jam, and crumpets. I also call out the warm beer thing (I need my beer cold), the “lemonade is basically Sprite” difference, and a few tipping basics. Oh—and I still really want to try chicken tikka masala in England someday.
