In this reaction, I watched “7 Myths British People Believe About America (Part 1)” from Lost in the Pond, and it was one of those videos that’s fun but also actually makes you think. I went myth-by-myth and added my own Texas perspective, because a lot of these stereotypes come from TV, movies, or just people repeating stuff they’ve heard. And yeah… some of them are way off, but I can also see why people believe them. We get into the idea that all Americans live in huge houses (Home Alone really did damage), and I break down how housing is all over the place—apartments, condos, tiny places, big places, and everything in between. We also talk about how American address numbers work (and why they can jump into the thousands), plus the “America has no history” take, which I agree is a lazy perception when you consider Native history and everything that’s happened here. Then we hit the Canada vs. America confusion, the “Americans are loud” stereotype (context matters), and even the whole bum bag/fanny pack thing—because apparently that’s a myth too, even though I’m seeing them make a comeback worn across the chest. I also touched on “fall” vs “autumn,” because honestly I’ve heard both my whole life.
