In this forecast, I’m tracking a dangerous “storm train” that’s going to bring multiple chances of severe weather and a pretty dramatic temperature flip over the next 7 days. The first round arrives today (Sunday) with an SPC Slight Risk (2/5) stretching from around Philadelphia back toward Evansville. The main concern is very large hail, and we do have a hatched area where supercells could drop hail as large as baseballs. Damaging winds are also on the table (60–70 mph), and while I’m not super concerned about tornadoes, I’m not ruling out one or two if we can get just enough moisture. I also break down the timing: things ramp up mid to late afternoon, with the most intense window roughly 3–9 PM, then storms trend more outflow-dominant later in the evening. After a quieter Monday and Tuesday for most, attention shifts to Thursday, where a stronger system could bring a more widespread severe threat across parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley—depending on low placement and whether the jet takes on a negative tilt. On top of that, there’s a real chance for wintry weather to sneak back in behind the system, which is wild considering the record-breaking heat we’ve been dealing with.
