About This Video

In this video I’m testing the Sony RX100 Mark II in 2025 and answering the big question: is it still worth buying, or should you just bite the bullet on a newer Fuji or Ricoh that costs an arm and a leg? I grabbed my RX100 II off Facebook Marketplace for $220 (yeah, the screen is scratched and it even throws a random drop detect warning sometimes), but the point is simple: if you’re getting into street photography or you want a small travel compact, you don’t have to spend premium money to get great images. I break down what I actually like about the RX100 II—its 1-inch 20MP sensor, the 28–100mm full-frame equivalent zoom, the flip screen upgrade over the Mark I, and the built-in flash that’s perfect for that hard flash look or long exposures. I also talk about the “film emulation” hype: Fuji and Ricoh bake that look into JPEGs, but I genuinely enjoy editing RAWs in Lightroom, so I’m not paying extra for the camera to do it for me. Then I get real about the downsides: ergonomics are hands-down my biggest issue (tiny controls and that scroll wheel setup), I wouldn’t buy it for video in 2025, and the lack of an EVF makes bright daylight shooting tougher. Final verdict: 10/10 value for photographers if you find a good deal, and about a 7/10 for ease of use.
