In this video I finally talk about the Sony A7S III on the channel, and I do it in the most “real life” way possible—while heading to Gabriola Island for the premiere of my buddy’s documentary. My friend Cardy has owned the A7S III for about three years, so I used his experience (weddings, commercial work, real estate, BTS, travel) to answer the big 2024 question: is this 12MP “beast” still worth buying? We get into the stuff people always beak about—12 megapixels—and I show why megapixels aren’t everything. The A7S III still shoots RAW, it can bracket up to five exposures, and if your use case is video-first, it’s hard to beat. We also talk 4K 120, the fact that 4K 60 is uncropped on the A7S III (unlike my A7 IV with that 1.5x crop), and why the low-light performance is still insane thanks to dual native ISO going all the way up to 12,800. I also ask the practical questions: overheating in hot climates (Cardy’s run 4K 120 all day with zero issues), photo usability (yes, you can still get by), and what it’s missing. Spoiler: built-in ND and internal RAW would be nice, but for most shooters, this camera has already paid for itself—and it’s still a monster in 2024.
