In this video I take the DJI Mini 4 Pro out on my local seawalk in Campbell River, BC with my cousin Derek and put it through the stuff most of us actually care about: real-world flying, real-world footage, and whether the upgrade is actually worth the money in 2024. My first impression was honestly how insane the obstacle avoidance feels—360° collision sensors on a mini drone is wild—but I also talk about why I still don’t fully trust it (especially in low light) and why DJI Care Refresh is basically still a thing you should budget for either way. I break down the big “pro” upgrades like 10-bit color + D-Log for better dynamic range and color grading flexibility, Waypoints (which is a genuinely fun creative tool), improved subject tracking, and the low-light/night mode improvements. I also cover the RC 2 controller and the range improvements with OcuSync 4, plus a few features that feel cool but not essential. Then I get into the cons: video frame rate upgrades aren’t as dramatic as you’d think (Mini 3 Pro is already 4K60), photography is very similar across the lineup, wind is still wind because it’s still a mini drone, battery life isn’t improved, and the lens/aperture hasn’t meaningfully changed. My verdict is simple: if you don’t color grade, don’t need the newest features, and you’re newer to drones, save your money—DJI’s budget drones are already insanely good.
