In this video I put my long-time go-to, the DJI Air 2S, up against the newer Air 3S and try to answer the real question: is the upgrade actually worth it, or are we hitting that law of diminishing returns with drones? I took both out to Vancouver Island to film surfing, and I’m sharing real-world photo + video samples (plus a download folder so you can compare the footage yourself). I break down what made the Air 2S so solid for the last 3 years—especially that 1-inch sensor, 5.4K/30, 10-bit, and the fact that I could push ISO to around 3200 and still salvage the image. Then I get into what the Air 3S brings for basically double the price: 4K/120, D-Log M, a 1-inch 24mm camera plus a 70mm zoom that’s genuinely useful for stuff like surfing, vertical video (cropped to 2.7K), higher megapixel photos, and big safety upgrades like 360° sensors and LiDAR. The batteries are a huge win too—46 minutes and a portable 3-battery charger that keeps things simple. My takeaway is pretty straightforward: the Air 3S is awesome, but for most people the Air 2S is still in that sweet spot of price and quality. Sometimes the best move isn’t chasing the newest drone—it’s mastering what you already have.
