Let’s talk about the Canon RP—who it’s for, and if it’s still worth buying in 2025. This is literally the camera that started my YouTube channel, and I recently re-bought it on Marketplace for $450 just to see if the internet was still right to hate on it. In this video I show real samples, break down the pros and cons, and explain why the RP is actually an awesome camera to learn on—especially if you’re coming from photo and trying to level up your video. On the pro side, you’re getting a 26MP full-frame sensor with really nice Canon color science and solid RAW photos, plus a fully articulating screen, great touchscreen, USB-C charging, and (huge for the price) both a mic input and a headphone jack. 1080p Dual Pixel autofocus is genuinely good. But we also have to be real: 4K autofocus is garbage (contrast-based), there’s a massive 4K crop (and an even bigger crop with electronic stabilization), no IBIS, 8-bit only, no log, and the slow motion options are pretty limited. I also compare it to the Canon R50 and R10 in the same general budget, and I’ll tell you when I think you should go APS-C instead—or when it makes more sense to skip all of this and just go R8 if you’re video-first.
