This video is all about the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the biggest issue I ran into after two weeks: the $1,300 display. Samsung’s new built-in privacy display sounds cool on paper, and it is genuinely useful on a train or in a meeting, but the way they engineered it (two different sub-pixel types) creates side effects even when privacy mode is OFF. I’m seeing dullness at slight angles, fuzziness around small UI elements, and a “my eyes keep refocusing” vibe that reminds me of older panels. And because it’s baked into the hardware, Samsung can’t fix this with an update. Then there’s the part that really bugs me: this is still an 8-bit panel using FRC dithering to simulate 10-bit, stacked on top of PWM dimming and the privacy sub-pixel behavior—three potential sources of visual discomfort that you can’t disable. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is using a Samsung-made 10-bit panel, with higher peak brightness, Dolby Vision, and fewer headaches (literally). Outside the display drama, the S26 Ultra is a monster for performance, charges way faster at 60W, and the camera’s low-light upgrade is real thanks to the wider aperture. But if you’re on an S25/S24 Ultra, I’d wait—and if you’re tempted, go to a store and look at that display with privacy mode on and off before you spend the money.
