About This Video

My dogs drive me absolutely nuts sometimes—barking like maniacs, digging the couch, and shredding toilet paper—so I needed a creative way to exercise them and keep boredom from taking over my house. That’s why I built a DIY dog agility A-frame and turned my backyard into a little obstacle course. In this video, I walk you through the full step-by-step build so you can skip the overpriced ā€œthousands of dollarsā€ versions online and end up with something sturdier than the flimsy dog park stuff (and definitely better than the sketchy third-party Amazon ones). I show you exactly what to buy at the hardware store (I used Home Depot and had them cut wood for free), how to measure and install the ladder strips every 12 inches, and why I prime every single nook and cranny for weatherproofing—because mine lives outside through heavy rain, snow, and wind. Then I paint (yes, I went with a gorgeous purple) and add a non-skid additive so your dog has real grip. Finally, I hinge the two panels together and add chains with carabiners so you can adjust the spread for beginner to advanced difficulty. My favorite little confidence hack: I painted the steps bright yellow because dogs see yellow super clearly, especially on the descent.
