In this video, I’m showing you how I got these gorgeous “big lioness of a mane” curls using a tiny tiny tiny curling wand—specifically a 3/8 barrel. I’m also wearing tape-in hair extensions (real human hair), so I really wanted to see how a small barrel would perform start to finish with extra length and volume in the mix. I walk you through how I section, how I hold the wand (upside down and as close to the root as safely possible), and what you need on hand—aka a ton of clips and some texturizing spray because we want these curls to hold. I timed it, too, because I know that’s what everyone wants to know. I finished half my head in under 9 minutes, and the full style ended up being about 35 minutes including a few minutes of brushing through. The biggest takeaway: don’t panic when the curls look super tight at first—once you brush your fingers through and fluff it out, it turns into that big, soft, voluminous look. If you’ve got an evening out, I still recommend giving yourself extra time (I say plan about 2 hours ahead), but the actual curling can be way quicker than you’d think. And yes… today’s vibe was fully inspired by my miniature golden doodles—the doodle curl look is everything.
