I made a walnut wine rack for a friend's wedding. I tried first using a hand saw to cut down the rough walnut lumber into manageable sizes. I then milled it down to size using a table saw, a planer, and a jointer. Once the wood was milled down, I cut the pieces down to final size using the table saw. I cut a 45deg angle on the ends and added the slots all using the table saw. Before going to final sanding, I used a chisel to remove the planner marks. (My planner has nicks in the blades) By removing the larger bumps the sanding took a lot less time. Once all was sanded, I finished everything with some boiled linseed oil.
