The Ultimate DIY Backyard Game: Giant Yard Dice

We made a set of Yard Dice from plywood. This is our companion video to our entry into the #RocklerPlywoodChallenge put on by the Modern Maker Podcast. This is a simple DIY project that is great for summer. The Process: We started by cutting down the plywood into thin strips the width of the dice we wanted to make. We then cut the strips to make squares, six for each die. We then added a forty five degree chamfer to the squares by cutting them with the table saw. Once cut and chamfered, we then glued them together to form the die body. We then marked out where we wanted the dots to go so that it was easier to locate later. We then used a router and a round-over bit to round the edges of each die to make it smoother. Using a propane torch and a round bolt head, we burned the dots onto the dice. We finished them off with some light sanding and a coat of clear satin polycrylic to keep the natural color of the wood.
