Making a Christmas Star | Using Scrap Tin to Make a Metal Five Pointed Texas Star

I made a black Christmas star for our tree this year. This same process can be used to make any kind of tin star, such as a Texas five pointed star, using thin scrap metal. The Process: I started by finding a star template on the internet. I printed it over-sized since the bending tends to squeeze the size down a bit. I then found some scrap tin I had laying around. Mine comes from a stove pipe that was cut up for another project. (link below) I traced two stars from the template and added tabs to one of them. I then bent the stars into shape making sure to keep with the lines. I used a sharp corner, in my case a jointed piece of wood, to make sure my bend lines were sharp. I then assembled the two stars into one. In my case solder worked to join the edges together to make a more sturdy assembly. I added a cone to the bottom using some of the leftover tin to make it. I finished it all up with some black paint that I then scuffed up a bit to give it a more rustic look. The edges get very sharp and can easily cut you. You should always wear gloves when working with thin metal like this. I did not. . . Don't follow my bad example.
